As a kid, I took a few painting lessons from a friend of my mother's. That hobby quickly got old...especially as a young kid with lots of energy! Years passed and my mom had my paintings framed and hung in her Mississippi Gulf Coast home. However, on August 29, 2005, tragedy struck when Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. As a result from Hurricane Katrina, my mother lost everything - her home and everything in it, including my childhood paintings. The only thing left of her life was a concrete slab covered with piles of debris.
One day, my friend, Kristen, invited me to take a painting class with her. At first I was nervous because it had been a while since I had painted, but I thought "why not, this could be fun." After we took that first class, I was hooked (again)! I've taken several classes since then (some with friends and family) and have found a wonderful way to not only express myself, but a way to relax, enjoy life, and replace some of my childhood paintings for my mother. I've posted some of my artwork on this blog, but keep in mind that I'm no Picasso, but it sure is fun!
